It’s a fact, women who are abused are much more likely to be harmed by gun violence from their abuser. While women have some rights against their spouse who abuses them women have very few rights against a boyfriend who does the same. We must close the boyfriend loophole when it comes to protecting women against gun violence at the hands of their abuser. As a school board chairman, I’ve been fighting against assault and misconduct in schools, but I want to continue to ensure that we have strong voices fighting for the safety of all of our citizens. The “Me Too” campaign has helped to uncover how these attacks against women have been too often swept under the rug. I applaud the courageous women who have come forward to tell their stories and I will fight with them to seek justice. This is a top-priority issue for our nation.
